Composition of new PM&DC body transparently great achievement of Government, Saira Afzal Tarar

Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination, Mrs. Saira Afzal Tarar has said that government is committed to run the affairs of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council in transparent manner and in this regard the standard of medical services and education will not be compromised. She said while addressing a press conference hereon Friday in PM&DC. She highlighted various steps taken for the composition of PM&DC.

She said that it is pleasant movement for me as I have fulfilled my promise made with the people of the country regarding making PM&DC and independent and transparent body. Now the newly elected body has started functioning to meet the desires of making PM&DC a corruption free organization besides ensureing efficiency of the newly elected body.

Minster said that by following long and short term strategy council will make efforts to ensure complete elimination of corruption. This will improve efficiency of the body making it at par with relevant organizations. She said that in order to restore the public confidence which has heavily been eroded over the years the Council may employ a robust mechanism for grievances redressal system at one hand. On the other, the Council will have to establish rigorous monitoring and evaluation system. In the Council, equilibrium in administrative powers is imperative as this remained chief source of conflict and controversy over the years.

She further said that It is a matter of great satisfaction that after a long period i.e since 2012, a regular Pakistan Medical & Dental Council has been composed by the Federal Government, which is entrusted to run the affairs of the Council in a transparent manner so that the standard of medical education may not be compromised.

Saira Afzal Tarar said that much needed is better coordinated and concerted efforts between Ministry and Council for setting up a credible system of accreditation, examination and registration which leaves no complaint of corruption and arbitrariness. From unguided mushroom growth, there felt a need of policy-shift to focus on under-privileged classes and under-developed regions. Patient-care and emergency response are areas which required special attention, as well. To translate this into reality, private medical institutions should have to fulfill their corporate social responsibility of providing free treatment and free education to the poor.

She hoped that the newly constituted PM&DC must re-appraise/review the suitability and fitness of decisions & recommendation, particularly made in the past regarding recognition of medical & dental institutions, in order to streamline the medical education and profession.

During press conference the country’s Eminent Public Health Specialist Dr. Sania Nishter remarked that the Ministry of National Health Services is being led by an able and honest leadership of Saira Afzal Tarar. She said the transparent and fair manner in which key measures like the revamping of PM&DC have been taken deserve our appreciation.

On this occasion the newly elected president of PM&DC Pr. Dr. Shabbir Ahmed Lahri appreciated the efforts of Saira Afzal Tarar legislation and measures taken by her for revamping of council on behalf of council members president of PM&DC assured Minister of State for cooperation of council. Later on Saira Afzal Tarar Pr. Dr. Shabbir Ahmed Lahri and Dr. Sania Nishter on answered various questions of media representatives regarding affairs of PM&DC.
