Prime Ministers National Health Insurance Program (PMNHIP)

Minister of State, National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination, Mrs. Saira Afzal Tarar and Minister of State / Chairman, Privatization Commission of Pakistan, Mr. Mohammad Zubair, have jointly chaired a National Steering Committee Meeting of Prime Minister’s National Health Insurance Program on 14th July 2015. The meeting was also attended by Secretary (NHSR&C), Director General (NHSR&C), representative from PM Secretariat, all provincial and regional health departments and representative from ministry of Finance, Law and Planning. Minister informed the participants that in first phase the program will provide free of cost access to necessary hospital / indoor care, both for secondary and 7 priority diseases, to 3.1 million families in 23 districts of Pakistan living below poverty line. Thedistricts included in this program are Narowal, Khanewal, Sargodha, Rahim Yar Khan, Sheikhupura, Badin, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Mardan, Malakand, Kohat, Chitral, Quetta, Loralai, Lesbela, Kech, Muzaffarabad, Kotli, Diamer, Skardu, Bajaur Agency, Khyber Agency and ICT. Madam Minister also emphasized on the importance ofmaintaining complete transparency in hiring insurance company to complete the task of hospital empanelment, patient enrolment and providing health insurance services to the families. She also urged that all partners should join their hands in improving overall health status of Pakistan.
