 Health Minister Saira Afzal Tarar seeks WHO support in upscaling Lady Health Workers Program.

 

Minister for Health Saira Afzal Tarar held a meeting with Chief of Mother and Child Health of WHO Dr. Flavia Bustreo  on the sidelines of the World Health Assembly in Geneva.

 

The minister sought WHO support for independant evaluatiom of the Lady Health Workers Program with a view to ensuring the program realises its full potential. The minister said the program with over 100000 work force was a key to implementing strategies to ensure universal health coverage. Lady Health Workers can be effectively utilised to deliver routine immunization vaccines to children which is critical to providing immunization cover to more children.

 

The Saira Afzal Tarar informed that Pakistan had recently finalised a ten point national action plan for child health which has been agreed by all provinces. She requested WHO support in assessing the plan and technical input for making the plan effective.

 

WHO MNCH Chief appreciated the political commitment in Pakistan for taking forward mother and child health and pledged all out support of her organisation in this regard.
