Health Minister visits Federal EPI Cell

 Islamabad, 3 July 2014 - Mrs. Saira Afzal Tarar, State Minister for National Health Services Regulations and Coordination on the conducted a visited to Federal EPI Cell. She was briefed by Dr. Ejaz Ahmed Khan, National Program Manager Federal EPI Cell on the latest development followed by a detailed interaction with all EPI Staff. The Minister took a keen interest in the roles and responsibilities of staff members. Mrs. Saira Afzal Tarar, shared her vision and expectations from the EPI Team and desired regular feedback and briefing on the monthly basis. 

The minister showed keen interest in plans to use latest GIS/GPS technology in strengthening EPI. 
The briefing was followed by  Minister’s visit to the EPI warehouses to observe the vaccine storage and other logistics and vaccine management concerns. The minister appreciated the efforts in securing vaccines properly and aptly. However, she showed her concerns over the vaccines storage and distribution at the provincial and district levels. 

The Federal Minister laid special emphasis on the development of “Emergency Operational Cell” which will serve as a platform for efficient monitoring and evaluation. Furthermore she directed that a detailed action plan on EPI should be developed, in further strengthening its monitoring and surveillance roles. The Minister said there can be no compromise and provision of highest quality vaccine to protect children form deadly disease. She said every efforts is therefore being made to improve monitoring the expanded programme on immunization.
